SIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT AN INTERACTIVE ONLINE LEARNING PROGRAMME TO TRAIN EDUCATORS IN SOUTH AFRICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (SASL). This trail-blazing digital programme upskills educators who work in schools for the Deaf to become fluent in SASL, the language of learning and teaching for the Deaf. The online platform offers live training sessions facilitated by Deaf facilitators, which include ready-to-use lessons that have a SASL video teaching component and approved classroom materials. Educators better understand how to use technology in their teaching, enabling them to help Deaf learners access SASL through technology. The aim of this innovation is to empower educators, and enable Deaf children, youth and adults to be more independent and become economically active in society.
