Bee Loved Honey is infused with a true African story of restoration, economic empowerment and environmental renewal. Their honey is cultivated by a variety of beekeepers and farmers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds from all over South Africa. They have been able to create jobs through hive manufacturing and honey packaging through their factory located in the heart of a rural community. Bee Loved Honey has also been able to distribute over 1000 beehives to previously disadvantaged community members in rural areas.
They are on a mission to produce and distribute a million hives by 2025, combating unemployment in rural areas and, at the same time, repopulating bee colonies. Founded by Lesego Holzapfel, Bee Loved Honey is headquartered in the small town of Taung in South Africa's North West province, an area with a rich history of indigenous beekeeping and honey collecting.“The idea is to train the next generation of African beekeepers. These beekeepers will care for our bee colonies and in doing so, care for the environment. If our bee colonies continue to decline at the rate they are, our food security is at risk."- Lesego Holzapfel
Lesego is a SAB Foundation Innovation Awardee and has been part of the FURTHER community since 2021.
